The FBI is a fascinating subject for students
Mike Pinto, an FBI agent, and Dave Deitsch, a social studies student from West Geauga High School spoke to them about the FBI during an in-school field trip. Their combined experience is more than 25 years. One works in Washington, D.C.’s violent crime task force, the other in counterterrorism in the Middle East, and Africa. They shared some personal stories with the students and discussed the safeguarding of the homeland process. The agents provided a unique opportunity for the students at the high school.
College and Career Week
Eighth-grade students from West Geauga spent time imagining their futures during College and Career Week. Special events included videos, trivia and spirit days. There was also a full day dedicated to presentations. Michael Archiable (West Geauga High school alumnus) was the keynote speaker. He shared his story and encouraged students not to give up on their dreams.
More than 20 professionals filled the classrooms to discuss their careers in small groups. Excel TECC high school students presented on their programs. Eighth-graders enjoyed the day and were enthusiastic to learn about all of the different options that could be available.
GameCON is celebrated by WGMS
GameCON was a culminating activity in the middle school technology program. It is a three-year program that has students working on 3D design, coding and digital media editor. Each year, students are challenged with more difficult and more complicated activities as they move through the program. GameCON requires students code original games and design 3D prints. They also need to use Photoshop to create posters, advertisements and logos. This year, students were even able to print logo T-shirts with the school’s new garment printer.
