CHICAGO, Ill., Dec. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Landmarks Illinois Accepting nominations for the 2023 Most Endangered Historic Places award Illinois. The most popular advocacy program in the state, the Most Endangered is an annual list that highlights historic and culturally significant sites that are under threat from deterioration or demolition. You can nominate for the 2023 most endangered list online. Nominations are due by April 30, 2019. January 17, 2023.
Anybody can nominate a site, even residents and officials from the city. Illinois to be on the 2023 Most Endangered Species List. The sites must be in urgent need of conservation. They do not have to be designated as landmarks locally or nationally, but they should still be treasured by the community and/or be a celebration of local history and culture.
The Landmarks Illinois staff will review all nominations for the 2023 Most Endangered List. Landmarks Illinois Nominations for places that are able to tell the stories and histories of communities that have not been given equal attention by the preservation community are especially welcome. In early spring, the nominators will be notified if their chosen place has been selected. The 2023 list of Most Endangered species will be released in May 2023.

BENEFITS OF THE ‘MOST ENDANGERED DESIGNATION
Landmarks Illinois’ Most Endangered Historic Places has included sites Illinois Residents, governing bodies, media outlets and the media often pay greater attention to endangered sites, which helps boost advocacy efforts for its preservation. Legislative efforts can be made to help a site’s preservation by being included on the Most Endangered List.

Landmarks Illinois staff are committed to the preservation of a property once it is placed on its Most Endangered List. They also maintain communication with local advocates and provide resources (including small grants) where necessary. Many cases have resulted in long-lasting relationships between local advocates, Landmarks Illinois, and their supporters. Landmarks Illinois staff can also be a link to other preservation professionals like engineers, architects, historians, and others.
